The HINARI 'Access to Research in Health' Programme was set up by WHO together with major publishers to enable developing countries to gain access to one of the world's largest collections of biomedical and health literature.  Access is free or at a reduced cost for eligible countries

The Wellcome Trust offer advanced training courses and scientific conferences.  For these they provide limited bursaries for non-commercial applicants to cover up to 100% of the course fee.  Funding is also  available to assist with travel costs.

The ‘Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation’ (TRREE) website offers completely open access and free of charge basic training modules on research ethics and regulation.  The learning material is currently available in English, French, German and Portuguese.

Working To Empower is a non-profit and non-governmental organization working to empower sustainable, community-based change.  The website provides a range of free articles, videos and resources in a wide variety of languages.

The Health Education and Training Programme (HEAT) provide free courses which are designed for healthcare workers studying in sub-Saharan Africa

The EQUATOR Network is an international initiative that seeks to enhance reliability and value of medical research literature by promoting transparent and accurate reporting of research studies. The EQUATOR Network produce resources, education and training relating to the reporting of health research and use of reporting guidelines.

Global Health Media Project - Provides instructional videos on a wide range of health care topics aimed at health workers and communities in developing countries.

California-Nevada Public Health Training Center - Offers the following three part online course "Community- Based Participatory Research (CBPR): A Beginner's Guide." The course aims to outline CBPR - a research approach which brings together researchers, the community and organizations in the research process. Aimed at public health workers, the course aims to introduce CBPR, explain how it can be put into practice and outlines its relevance to public health.

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (University of Miami)-  Have produced a Biosafety and Biosecurity online course ("Biosafety and Biosecurity") covering topics including principles of biosafety, protective equipment and safe work practices and outlines the applicable guidelines

Khan Academy - "Introduction to Lab values and Concentrations". This ten part course covers lab values and concentrations, exploring the areas of molarity, osmolarity and tonicity amongst others

Vanderbilt University - "Data Management for Clinical Research" -  This free course runs over five weeks and is delivered via video lectures. The course covers areas including data management principles, data collection, EDC systems, regulatory requirements and compliance and data standards. The course also has a module dedicated to data management within a global health context

Initiative on Research and Innovation Management - "Research Administration: The Bridge to Sustainable Research" - This free course is split into four main sections covering the main areas of: research administration, responsible research and reporting, grant proposals and grants management. The course is presented using online tutorials and presentations

Medical Research Council (MRC) - "Research Data and Confidentiality" - This free online course explores the meaning and requirements of confidentiality and data protection within the context of a clinical research setting, providing the knowledge needed to interpret and meet the requirements in this context.

James Lind Institute - Advanced "Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Research and Quality Assurance" - Aimed at developing quality assurance (QA) professionals, the course covers QA standards, regulations and guidelines and explores the methods and processes employed to deliver quality systems. Johns Hopkins - "R Programming" This free online course provides instruction in R programming and how to use R for data analysis. (Course available in English and Chinese)

Johns Hopkins - Two part "Fundamentals of Epidemiology" course, plus one separate course specific to "Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases". All three examine the theories of epidemiology and statistical approaches. All the courses are free


The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - "Epidemiology: The Basic Science of Public Health" - This self paced free online course examines public health problems from an epidemiological perspective  enabling learners to gain an understanding of the rationale behind public health decisions 

HINARI (WHO) - HINARI Basic and Advanced Courses - These free course offer training surrounding searching, accessing and using information from HINARI (the world's largest collection of scientific resources), PubMed (the most widely used journal article index for the sciences) etc.

University of Nottingham - "Basic Epidemiology" - This free course offers basic modules covering a range of epidemiology topics

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) -"MSc in Clinical Trials" This distance learning course covers all aspects of developing, conducting and analysing a randomized controlled trial. Scholarships are available

University of Liverpool - "Msc in Clinical Research"(online) -  aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills needed to plan, conduct and manage a clinical trial throughout.

PharmaSchool - "Clinical Trial Designs" - This online course is designed to give the learner an insight into the numerous components a clinical trial design consists of.
